Abstract

Lanthanide Nickelates Ln2NiO4+δ (Ln = La, Pr or Nd) have drawn significant attention as oxygen electrodes for solid oxide cells (SOCs) due to their mixed ionic and electronic conducting (MIEC) properties. They exhibit very good electro-catalytic activity as well as high values for the oxygen diffusion coefficient (D* ) and surface exchange coefficient (k* ). Earlier reported results show that the partial substitution of Co2+ at B-site in La2Ni1−x Co x O4+δ lead to an enhancement in the transport and electrochemical properties of the material. The present study aims to investigate the effect of Sr2+ substitution at the A-site in La2-x Sr x Ni0.8Co0.2O4+δ in order to further investigate the structural, physico-chemical and electrochemical properties of this class of materials. The TGA results shows a decrease in delta value with increase in Sr doping, while the EIS data analysis of the symmetrical half-cells shows an increase in polarization resistance (R p) with increasing Sr-content.
