Abstract

The paper discusses several aspects of the problem of tracking a target: maneuvering in the X-Y plane using the Interacting Multiple Model(IMM) tracking algorithm. Both the /spl alpha/ - /spl beta/ filter and the modified /spl alpha/ - /spl beta/ filter, which consists of a deterministic acceleration in the motion model, are used as subfilters for the IMM tracking algorithm. Particular attention is focussed on the configuration of the IMM algorithm, namely the type, number and parameters of the subfilters. Different configurations and various tracking scenarios have been considered. The simulation results show that the IMM algorithms using modified a - /spl alpha/ - /spl beta/ subfilters with appropriate parameters have the best performance for a variety of target motion scenarios.
