Abstract

High density magnetic recording is investigated for a combination of single layered perpendicular media and ring-type heads. Experimental results show that the linear recording resolution(D50) of 260kFCI is achievable with a CoCrPtTa perpendicular medium in combination with a narrow gap flying write head and an MR head under a magnetic spacing of about 40nm. D50*=300kFCI is achievable with the medium in combination with a contact read/write head. It is thus shown that the recording linear density can be increased greatly by employing the present recording system.
