Abstract

Heat transfer properties of water, ethylene glycol and two commercial coolants in Nigerian markets (Abro and Holt) were studied by observing the effect of various aqueous mixtures of the respective fluid on boiling point, elevation of boiling point and relative density. The results obtained from the study indicated that ethylene glycol has the best heat transfer capacity due to its molecular properties and high ebuloscopic constant (15.38). The performance of ethylene glycol and the commercial coolants was found to increase with increase concentration. The present study gives insight on the design of better heat transfer fluid and the optimum fluid to water ratio that could ensure best performance.
