Abstract

The film forming mechanism of oil-in-water (O/W) emulsions has been investigated at high speeds in the present paper. The lubricant reservoir formed in nano-confined space between a smooth plate disc and a highly polished ball could be observed via the microscope and the film thickness was calculated by the technique of relative optical interference intensity (ROII). The film formation mechanism and influencing factors including the oil percentage, the high speed and the width of nano-gap were discussed.
