Abstract

Degrees of set and deset have been investigated for polyester and nylon multifilament yarns which were set and deset at the same temperature over the range 30–200°C. These values were calculated on the basis of the “true” values of original length determined by subjecting the specimens to heat treatment at different temperatures in an undeformed and unloaded state. The results obtained throw light on structural and dimensional changes in heat-set polyester and nylon yarns which remain unidentified in conventional shrinkage measurements.
