Abstract

Poly(2-methoxyethylacrylate)-PMEA theoretically reduces protein and platelet adsorption. 55 patients undergoing three-vessel coronary artery bypass were operated with PMEA coated and uncoated extracorporeal circuits. Contrary to coated circuits, it is observed that more protein adhesion occurs on uncoated fiber surfaces. As a clinical observation, less bleeding was observed for coated system.
