Abstract
In this study, innovative blast-proof sandwich panel FE models were created by changing the shape of the flat front face sheet of a square honeycomb sandwich panel. A single V-shape and a multi-V-shape front face were modeled while maintaining the mass of the sandwich structure constant. ABAQUS/Explicit was used to evaluate the honeycomb sandwich panels' blast resistance for a constant distance of 105 mm from the front sheet bottom surface at blast loads ranging from 1 to 3 kg of TNT. The face deflection, core crushing, and energy absorption capabilities under air-blast loads of the newly developed sandwich panels were used to investigate their blast resistance. The single V-shape front sheet used in sandwich panels shows the highest blast resistance, followed by the flat front sheet and multi-V-shape front face used in sandwich panels. The single V-shaped front sheet used in sandwich panels can be used for automotive bottom hulls to save the lives of passengers from blast attacks.
