Abstract

A new winding for an AC three-phase electrical machine designed in accordance with novel principles has a high winding coefficient and a low harmonic content. The winding can be manufactured in a single layer and technological short pitch. Either high efficiency can be obtained or raw materials can be saved without worsening overall performance. The structure of this winding is described with two detailed examples. Tests of prototype machines show that experimental results correspond well with theoretical results. Analysis of the MMF harmonics shows that the harmonic content is further reduced by the new winding. The test results also indicate that there is no overheating under normal operation.
