Abstract

Summary The author presents a variable speed device composed of a reluctance machine and a static converter of which the frequency is determined by the speed of rotation. After presenting the structure of the reluctance machine, a simplified analysis is given to enable clarification of the torque-speed and e.m.f.-speed characteristics of the reluctance machine supplied in this manner. He then studies the current commutation in the windings of the reluctance machine and examines the results obtained by means of a speed controller working from a 3-phase network of 50 Hz.
