Abstract

In this paper the 57Fe Mössbauer spectra for YFe 10− x Co x Si 2 x=0,2 and 6 compounds have been investigated. The results show that both Si and Co atoms prefer to occupy 8 f site. With increasing cobalt content in compounds the average hyperfine field for 8 i site decreases but for 8 f and 8 j sites increases first, undergoes a peak and then decreases in the composition range of 0< x<6. Meanwhile the average quadrupole splitting QS increases for iron sites 8 i, 8 j but almost remain the same for 8 f site in the composition range of 0< x<2, then the QS decreases slightly for 8 i but increases sharply for 8 j and 8 f in the range 2< x<6. The average isomer shift IS increases for 8 f and 8 j site but almost remain the same for 8 i site in the composition range of 0< x<6.
