Abstract

The yield curve of the reaction 46Ti(p, γ)47V has been measured over the range Ep = 430–1340 keV. Resonance strengths and energies, the latter with a precision of typically 0.1 keV, are presented for the 35 resonances observed in this energy region. Some previously reported resonances are proven to be multiplets.The decay schemes of most of these resonances have been studied. The measurements also provide detailed information on the γ-ray branching ratios of many bound states of which 36 have not been reported previously. Excitation energies have been determined with a precision up to 4 eV. The reaction Q-value is found to be 5167.57 ± 0.07 keV.Angular distribution measurements yield the spins and/or parities of 38 bound states in addition to the resonance spins. For several other bound states the possible spins have been restricted. Multipolarity mixing ratios have been deduced from the same data. Together with the lifetimes (or lifetime limits) deduced from DSA measurements, they provide the information required for the application of the RUL's. Our results contradict a few previously assigned spins and parities.Shell-model calculations have been performed in several configuration spaces. The positive-parity states can be reasonably described in a 1d32−1(1f72 2p32)8 configuration space, whereas the negative parity states can be described in a comparatively simple (1f72 2p32)7 configuration space. In general the agreement with experiment is satisfactory. The few discrepancies are most probably due to the fact that we had to cut model spaces and limit the number of excited particles in order to keep the calculation within acceptable limits.
