Abstract

The spin alignment of ρ0 mesons has been investigated in\(\bar pp\) interactions at 32 GeV/c. The statistics of 250 K\(\bar pp\) collisions was obtained with the help of the liquid hydrogen bubble chamber “Mirabelle”. Various reference frames have been used in the analysis and the most profound effect has been revealed in the transversity frame. The measured value of the spin density matrix element ρ00 amounts to 0.447±0.033. The |x|-andpt2-dependences of ρ00 have been studied and a strong increase of ρ00 detected in regions of enlarged |x| andpt2. It is shown that the spin alignment of ρ0 (700) takes place in both annihilation and nonannihilation channels.In Addition, a sizable spin alignment off2 (1270) mesons in the Gottfried-Jackson frame has been found in the fragmentation region |x|>0.4.
