Abstract

Group work is one of the classroom activities that language teachers frequently employ at high schools. This study aimed to investigate English teachers’ perceptions of factors contributing to the success of group work in EFL (English as a foreign language) classrooms. The study was done in Ho Chi Minh City with 25 English teachers’ attendance in questionnaire survey and 3 ones attending semi-structured interview. Mixed methods were employed for data collection by using two research tools, including questionnaire surveys and semi-structured interview. The results indicated the factors concerning teachers’ role, the tasks, and seating arrangements affected the success of group work activity. Future studies on factors contributing to group work’s success should be done on a larger scale and scope, and employ multiple research methods to collect the data.
