Formerly well-known as „Archiv für das Eisenhüttenwesen”, steel research looks back on 70 years of experience in worldwide exchange of technological basics. In 1994, the editors decided to offer a Best Paper Award with a thousand US-$ purse and a pretty diploma. For the first time in the short history of the steel research Best Paper Award, a publication out of process metallurgy won the prize. On the occasion of the Get-together-Party of Metec congress in Düsseldorf on June 13th, 1999, Professor Dr.-Ing. Dieter Ameling, executive director of the VDEh - The German Iron and Steel Institute and thus editor of the steel research journal took the opportunity to honour the prize-winners.
