Abstract
The present paper deals with coal cutting operation by using conical pick. Coal sample was given a nearly cubical shape so that it can be properly placed on the shaper machine for linear cutting process. The tool was fitted on tool post at different tilt angles during cutting. Parameters as depth of cut, amount of coal removed and temperature generated during cutting were analyzed at various tilt angles. The test results were used to plot relation between depth of cut and amount of coal removed to know the fragmentation behavior of coal.
