Abstract

Objective To investigate the occupational cognition and occupational expectation of nursing postgraduate students, and provide basis for further improving the quality of nursing education and management. Methods Totally 187 nursing postgraduate students from 11 universities were investigated with self-designed occupational recognition and expectation Questionnaire from September 2015 to April 2016. Results The overall capability of collecting occupational information of 1/3 students was not enough, and the overall cognition of students on future career was high, but their evaluation of social cognition was low. The most ideal job for most nursing students was teaching. However, according to the self-evaluation, the most possible job is clinical work. Too much working pressure on their mind and body, low social status and three shifts were the most unacceptable factors, and gain recognition in work, reasonable work load and good working environment are the most inspiring factors. Conclusions We need to modify both nursing education and management, so as to improve the occupational awareness and stability of postgraduate students and optimize their career efficiency.
