Abstract

Objective By investigating the causes and characteristics of inter-hospital urgent consultation for inpatients in stomatological hospital, to discuss the purpose and clinical significance of inpatient inter-hospital urgent consultation in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in stomatological hospital, which can provide reference for the regulation and improvement of inpatient inter-hospital urgent consultation in stomatological hospital. Methods To review the records of inter-hospital urgent consultation registered and recorded in the Department of Medical Affairs for inpatients in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Nanjing Stomatological Hospital, Medical School of Nanjing University from 2015 to 2017. Results A total of 80 patients with urgent consultation were collected and 95 records of urgent consultation were recorded. Including 60 records of men and 35 records of women. The patients are 19 to 83 years old, with an average of (58.13 ± 15.48) years old. The frequently invited departments are including respiratory, cardiology, psychiatry, infection, ICU, and cardiothoracic surgery departments. The reasons of urgent consultation are related to postoperative dyspnea, irregular heart rate, pulmonary infection and abnormal mental behaviors. Conclusions Due to the professional characteristics of stomatological hospital, stomatologists have insufficient knowledge of systemic diseases, and inter-hospital urgent consultation has become a common method to protect inpatients′ safety and to improve the diagnosis.
