Abstract

Objective To examine the rate and reasons of preference for vaginal delivery and delivery knowledge. Methods A study was conducted among puerperas who actually had outpatient examination and vaginal delivery in a level three class A hospital. Results Of 256 puerperas, 242 preferred vaginal delivery. The main reasons of preference for vaginal delivery were healthier baby, faster recovery, and natural process. The rightness rates of 10 lists had statistical difference between the group of preferring caesarean and the group of preferring vaginal delivery among 27 lists of delivery complication knowledge (P<0.05). Conclusions This study reports a high rate (95%) of preference for vaginal delivery among women who finally had vaginal delivery. Thus women of preferring vaginal delivery are not targeted population, who are given more intervention to reduce caesarean rate. Key words: Preference for vaginal delivery; Puerpera; Knowledge
