Abstract

Transcription is an essential cellular process that controls the flow of genetic information in biological systems. Spt-Ada-Gcn5-Acetyltransferase (SAGA) complex plays several key regulatory roles during protein-coding gene transcription and is conserved across eukaryotes. However, how SAGA synchronises its distinct functions to maintain optimal regulation of gene transcription is poorly understood. This study uncovers the interplay between SAGA and the general transcription machinery components critical for the optimal regulation of transcription and reveals high structural and functional homology between SAGA and its isoform SLIK. Knowledge gained from this project adds to the understanding of the conserved transcriptional regulatory mechanisms.
