Abstract

ObjectivesInflammation is an essential component of atherosclerosis and a significant risk factor for the development of cardiovascular diseases. TRAF3IP2 (TRAF3-Interacting Protein 2), an upstream regulators of NF-κB, activates multiple pro-inflammatory signaling pathways. In this regard we compared the expression level TRAF3IP2 in CVD patients with different severity. MethodsIn this study, 64 patients with diagnosis of coronary artery disease who were undergoing angiography and admitted to the Farshchian heart center in Hamadan (Iran) were evaluated. For each patient, the expression of TRAF3IP2 was measured from their blood samples by qRT-PCR and Gensini score was assessed based on angiography result. Also, demographic information such as age, gender, smoking, and history of hypertension were collected using a checklist. ResultsThe results of this study showed that TRAF3IP2 expression has a significant correlation with different severity of CVD and Gensini score (P˂0.05). However, history of hypertension, history of smoking, age and gender didn't show significant relationship with TRAF3IP2 expression (P > 0.05). ConclusionTRAF3IP2 plays a causal role in CVD development and severity, possibly by inducing the expression of multiple proinflammatory mediators. Taken together, these findings show intricate features that TRAF3IP2 could be as marker to predict the amount of vascular stenosis. Also, it provides new insights for understanding the molecular mechanism underlying the progression of CVD to be as a potential therapeutic target.
