Abstract
This study has investigated the challenges to women journalists in Islamic Republic of Pakistan. Previous studies of Basu (2018) and Nusrat (2018) has revealed that women are joining media in large number but their presence is negligible. They are facing the challenges and constraints that obstruct their career growth and professional excellence. What are they facing is the main question that is the fundamental objective of this study. The study investigated the major challenges of discrimination, harassment, personal constraint and work family life balance. A sample of 231 women journalists registered in five main press clubs of Pakistan was taken for survey and 20 selected women were interviewed. Stratified random sampling was used for survey while purposive sampling was employed for interviews. Convergent parallel mixed method was adopted. SPSS was used for analyzing data gathered through survey questionnaire and NVIVO was used for interviews. The findings revealed that discrimination and work family balance are the biggest challenge while personal constraint and harassment also put substantial impact on professional excellence and career.
