Abstract

Anti-ageing is an idea that has always been a part of human life. Eternal life and immortality are parts of fantasy which were given a hope to become true with developing technology. Anti-ageing research is being conducted with the hopes of finding ways to improve lifespan, reversing the impacts of certain diseases in humans which leads to cell death and faster progression of aging and to develop regenerative medicine. There are genes in certain species of animals and other organisms which tend to reduce the speed of aging in the organisms, it is also found out that these genes are also present in human beings but are inactive. There are also ways to manipulate these genes and activate them using certain compounds and their activation might prove to be helpful in improving lifespan and curing various diseases which leads to the destruction of cells and their aging. This also helps in regenerative medicine. Gene therapy is one of the developing approaches for almost every disease and their progression which also includes the age-related ones. Gene therapy helps to alter the genome to produce the desired results but when it comes to anti-ageing gene therapy there have been a lot of hindrances like ethical issues, unsatisfactory results of the therapy and side effects so this therapy hasn't been brought into application yet but if the hurdles were overcome, clinical implementation of this technology and with the upcoming CRISPR technology it will give rise to various closed disciplines from the past.
