Abstract

Integrity of the cell's plasma membrane (PM) is paramount, not only for the survival of healthy cells, but it also plays a pivotal role in the development and spreading of cancer. The annexin protein family is largely involved in the repair machinery of the cell's PM. Importantly, highly invasive cancers like lymphoma and central nervous system cancers have an upregulated annexin V (ANXA5) expression, while others like Leukemia show a strong downregulations of ANXA5. These observations suggest an important role of annexins in these type of cellular disorders.
