Abstract

The Defected Ground Structure (DGS), which provides seamless passband and extensive stopband characteristics. By incorporating the excellent stopband features, harmonic suppression profile of bandpass filter can be improved. The simple & efficient design of one side perturbed by uniform dumbbell-shaped DGS (D-DGS) on ground plane of microstrip transmission line of bandpass filter over both side perturbing with conventional square Photonic Bandgap Structure (PBGS) is proposed. Three unique perturbation on the ground plane of the BPF substrate are studied to optimize the performance profile of existing BPF. It is seen that D-DGS on the ground plane of transmission line have sharper cutoff frequencies of band rejection for harmonic suppression with higher insertion loss and very low ripple in passband over the conventional rectangular PBGs. It can be observed that, D-DGS placed only one side on the ground plane of standard transmission line results BPF in optimized performance over placed at both sides.
