Abstract

In 2017, for the first time in history women made up the majority of matriculating medical students.1 Despite the improvements in representation that women have seen in academic medicine, the field remains rife with gender disparities: Female faculty members receive lower salaries,2 hold fewer full professor and department chair positions,3,4 and are less frequently awarded research grants than their male counterparts.5 In addition, recent studies have highlighted the lack of female representation in awards from medical professional societies.
