Abstract

Summary This study investigates the use of an instrument to assess classroom environment. The aim was to gather normative information on British primary school children. The My Class Inventory (MCI) was administered to a Surrey sample of 246 children from 10 classrooms. Teachers views on the usefulness of the measure were sought, and possible applications of the scale discussed. There were significant differences between published Australian norms and those obtained in this study. The scale also discriminated significantly between different classrooms. The use of the MCI is recommended to other educational psychologists.
