Abstract

Background: Diarrhoea is a common complaint in dogs and may cause significant patient morbidity and owner distress. Many diseases can lead to chronic diarrhoea (›three weeks) in dogs.Aim of the article: Part one of this series discussed the systematic approach to the diagnosis of chronic diarrhoea in the dog (Walker and McMahon 2019). This second article covers treatment of specific causes of chronic diarrhoea in more detail, focusing on diseases commonly identified in practice. In recognition of the fact that many clients cannot afford extensive investigation, a ‘low‐cost’ treatment approach is suggested at the end of this article.
