Abstract

This chapter discusses re-design (or dimension scaling) of high-frequency structures using inverse modeling. Dimension scaling belongs to the class of tasks that are routinely carried out in high-frequency electronics. Typically, the aim is to re-design a particular structure for various sets of operating conditions or to implement it on a different substrate. Because of being based on repetitive electromagnetic (EM) analyses, the re-design process entails considerable computational expenses. Utilization of already available designs may reduce the cost of such operations. Here, several design frameworks for rapid dimension scaling of high-frequency structures are presented, all involving inverse surrogate models and supplementary correction procedures. Numerous case studies concerning both antenna and microwave components demonstrate reliability and efficiency of these methods, in particular, the capability of accomplishing the structure re-design at the cost of a few EM simulations.
