Abstract

Protective relays, especially IDMT (Inverse Definite Minimum Time) overcurrent relays is crucial in the power system protection. It is important that in any case of the system abnormalities or faults, the IDMT overcurrent must be capable to isolate only the faulty component from the healthy system. This paper presents the study on the coordination of the IDMT relay in the tested network whereby the existing setting of TMS (Time Multiple Setting) and PS (Plug Setting) currently adopted is studied to validate the setting, hence, to proposed the recommendation for the new setting for any miscoordination. This paper was developed to cater the coordination study in the power system network by means of the comprehensive computer based tool, Computer Aided Protection Engineering (CAPE) devised for various studies, such as coordination study. The tests result of the network was studied, analyzed and discussed.
