Abstract

Bhattacharya, A., Singh, V.P. and Gupta, L.K. 1999. Invasiveness of Salmonella typhimurium (poultry isolates) in chicken embryo fibroblast cell culture. J. Appl. Anim. Res., 16: 93–96. Invasiveness of S. typhimurium avian isolates was asssayed by tissue culture invasion assay in chicken embryo fibroblast (CEF) cell culture. Four isolates of S. typhimurium along with two reference European strains were studied. Out of four isolates tested, one (E2336) was found as the most invasive to CEF cell culture where the intracellular recovery of these organism was 1.75x105 CFU/ml. One isolate (E2385) was recorded as least invasive to CEF cell culture (3xl03 CFU/ml intracellular recovery) while two reference strains (F98 and 4/4) invade moderately (3.3x104 and 4x104 CFU/ml).
