Abstract

Invasive hemodynamic monitoring has enjoyed widespread popularity in the care of critically ill patients. An understanding of the indications, limitations, and complications of invasive hemodynamic monitoring is essential for all physicians in clinical practice. Although newer technologies eventually may supplant invasive hemodynamic monitoring, invasive monitoring will remain an important tool in patient management. This review outlines the use of invasive hemodynamic monitoring as it relates to general clinical practice.
