Invar effect in rare earth-iron intermetallic compounds

Abstract

For rare earth compounds with iron a comparison is presented between the results of band-structure calculations and experimental data available at present. The magnetovolume effects like the forced and spontaneous magnetostriction and the pressure dependence of the Curie temperature in combination with the high-field susceptibility can be interpreted by band effects and involve a large volume dependence of the band-structure parameters.
