Abstract
SUMMARY The present article is a letter from the author to his former promotor, Prof. Robbers, in which the author makes some reflexions on his dissertation De beide geslachten, 1952. Against a modern trend to invoke scientific discoveries as the basis for sexual reform proposals, he defends the ethical mind of the common people, which connecting archetypical ideas with the always changing scientific propositions finds its own way in order to express the conditio humana in various cultural patterns. He denies the possibility of an invariable position, claimed by some cultural or religious groups, in the question of birth control. The association and at the same time the dissociation of sexuality and procreation, defended by the author, by P. Ricoeur a.o., provokes a partially new explication of phenomena such as homosexuality, bisexuality, prostitution, celibacy. The author hopes to return more broadly on those questions.
