Abstract

Introduction: Intussusception is rare in adults, most often occurring in a tumor of the small intestine. The goal of this work was to bring back the experience of our service in their care. Material and methods: It was a 9-year retrospective study, which looked at the charts of patients over 15 years of age operated on for acute intussusception. The epidemiological, clinical, therapeutic and prognostic variables were studied. Results: We collected 10 cases, i.e. 0.13% compared to interventions and 2.69% compared to acute intestinal obstruction. The average age was 30, with extremes of 16 and 75. Male predominance was noted with a sex ratio of 1.5. Clinically, abdominal pain was noted in all patients; 7 patients were received in a table of intestinal obstruction. The ASP revealed hydro-aeric levels in 7 cases. Abdominal ultrasound showed a roundel image in 3 patients. The laparotomy was supra and sub umbilical midline for all cases. The ileo-ileal variety was noted in 7 cases. Ileal resection was performed in 4 patients. The postoperative results were good in 8/10 patients. Conclusion: Intussusception in adults has been rare. Bowel resection is the treatment of choice. An improvement in the means of investigation and resuscitation could improve their care. Keywords : Acute intussusception, adults
