Abstract

We report a rarely occurred paracentric inversion of the long arm of chromosome 3, i. e. inv (3) (q21q26), observed in patient of Ph-positive chronic myelocytic leukemia with abnormal thrombopoiesis. To our knowledge, this is the sixth case reported in English literature. This additional chromosome marker usually appears in the late chronic phase or blastic phase of chronic myelocytic leukemia, and indicates a poor prognosis. Its relationship to abnormal thrombopoiesis is also discussed. (J Genet Mol Biol 1990; 1: 14-21)
