Abstract

"Classical Article" Reprint Series The purpose of this series is to make accessible articles written in the early days of the economics of the arts which are out of print or otherwise difficult to obtain. There is a significant early literature in the field that originally appeared in a spread of publications, and is not well known. These "classic articles" demonstrate the quality of the written heritage of cultural economists and are an excellent benchmark against to evaluate intellectual progress in the subject. We have invited a hum ber of eminent economists to write a brief introduction to each reprint.
