Abstract

It is appropriate that a journal with an international reputation for publishing in the field of medical physics should produce this particular special issue. The topic, `Optical radiation techniques in medicine and biology', is at a very exciting stage of development; there is still a lot of physics to be explored and problems to be solved, but promising medical applications are already appearing on the horizon.
