The Introduction contains five chapters which discuss: Lady Margaret Beaufort and her Household Accounts (an overview of the extant accounts and a comparison with other household accounts); Lady Margaret Beaufort and her Officers and Household (the personnel who prepared each account, and the nature of the household); The Compilation of the Accounts (the stages of compilation and the roles of the accountants and auditors); The Edited Accounts (analysis of each of the edited documents); The Hands (analysis of the scribal hands of the accountants and auditors).
