Abstract

The Introduction to Collaborative Insights: Interdisciplinary Perspectives on Musical Care throughout the Life Course describes the process of the book’s creation and provides an overview of fundamental ideas that run through it. This description includes the introduction of the term musical care that emphasises blurring the boundaries between disciplines, activities, and contexts. The life course structure used throughout the book is a way to highlight the transformations and changes in the application of musical care as life progresses. It is a way to prioritize the experiences within the life stages over the diagnoses and contexts usually associated with them. The Introduction also discusses the role of interdisciplinary collaboration in musical care practices and research and goes on to provide chapter summaries leading to an overview of what to expect when reading this book. The close is a call to action: an invitation to be part of interdisciplinary collaborations in research and practice in musical care.
