Abstract

Dyslexia is a developmental disorder in children characterized by a discrepancy between actual reading performance and what would be expected based on the child’s intelligence. This introduction discusses aspects of dyslexia research and some challenges for theoretical research aimed at identifying the underlying causes of dyslexia. It also attempts to define developmental dyslexia and notes one common factor among these definitions, namely, poor reading. A blueprint for dyslexia research is also presented and questions for dyslexia research are also identified.
