Abstract
An agile overview of organic lasers and organic photonics emphasizing contributions of historical significance. This chapter introduces the reader to the three phases of organic lasers beginning with liquid tunable dye lasers, transitioning to solid-state tunable dye lasers, and also including newer versions of the organic laser as characterized by organic semiconductor lasers. The importance of laser linewidth in laser performance is highlighted. The chapter concludes with a brief description of the subject matter included in organic lasers and organic photonics.
