Abstract

This chapter introduces the context of violence experienced by Central American migrants in Mexico and the significant theoretical contributions of the book. Through an ethnographic vignette it describes the research setting of fieldwork in a migrant shelter. It also situates and discusses the conceptual frameworks of violence, intimacy and the “anthropology of transit” that are developed throughout the manuscript.
