Abstract
The central nervous system (CNS) is the target of inflammatory processes not only in classical immune-mediated disorders such as meningitis or multiple sclerosis (MS) but also in various other diseases which have not so far been considered to be inflammatory. The latter includes stroke, trauma, and neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer's disease (AD). In order to understand the crosstalk between nervous and immune system which might reveal general underlying mechanisms in different disorders as therapeutic targets, communication between the relevant research fields is necessary. In this Special Issue, experts in the different areas focus on inflammatory neurodegeneration as part of the pathology which they study and treat in patients.
