Abstract

Abstract This introductory chapter begins with a brief discussion of the increasing number of ethnic groups throughout Africa claiming a Jewish, or Hebrew, or Israelite ancestry. It then lays out the main objective of the book, which is to review the processes and the complex interactions that shaped these new religious identities in Africa. The factors influencing African Jews' religious identities are discussed. An overview of the subsequent chapters is presented.
