Abstract

AbstractWelding operations are often used in different types of manufacturing facilities (mechanical, automotive, airspace, shipbuilding, maintenance, etc.). When welding, workers are exposed to fumes and gases generated by the process. The potential exposure varies with the process and welding conditions employed. Hand welding and semiautomatic, automatic, spot, joint contact, robot, and gas welding are the most common welding processes in manufacturing and repair industries. Contaminant control and comfort conditions in welding shops can be achieved using a combination of process optimization and enclosure as well as properly designed ventilation systems.
