Abstract

The International Review of Applied Economics invited papers which involved the ‘application of economic ideas to the real world. Applied economics is interpreted to include both the publication of empirical work, and the application of economics to the evaluation and development of economic policies. The journal went through several change of ownership of the publishers: Edward Arnold itself was acquired by Hodder & Stoughton in 1987. It eventually came to Carfax – a specialist journal publisher – which in turn was acquired by Taylor and Francis. In ‘Financialisation, industrial strategy and the challenges of climate change and environmental degradation’, Malcolm Sawyer discusses the nature of the present era of financialisation, outlining the changes in the financial sector and its relations with the real sector which are particularly relevant for the climate emergency. In ‘The industrial policy requirements for a global climate stabilization project’, Robert Pollin presents an industrial policy approach for advancing a global climate stabilization project.
