Abstract

The 1960s have seen the Soviet recognition of sociology as a distinct intellectual discipline and as a vital source of information on a wide range of social problems confronting Soviet society. One of the consequences has been the emergence of empirical social research in a variety of areas: patterns of leisure time, attitudes toward work, occupational prestige, problems of marriage and family life, and educational and career plans of youth.
