Abstract

The Faculty of Theology of the Catholic University of Leuven and NOSTER - the Netherlands School of Advanced Studies in Theology and Religion - were awarded a grant from the Internationalisation fund of NWO, the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research. NWO sponsored a joint research project Orthodoxy and Adaptation as Conflicting Religious Identities during the years 2004-2008. The present volume is to be seen as the proceedings of the final symposium. In a way, the book harvests the result from the various subprojects and tries to speak a language by which theologians of different disciplinary background can communicate with each other. In the section on Biblical Studies, Rainer Albertz discusses the question whether the Hebrew Bible is inherently violent. Some scholars have uttered the view that monotheism - a clear example of orthodoxy - was introduced forcefully in Ancient Israel . Keywords: Catholic University; Hebrew Bible; NOSTER; Rainer Albertz
