Abstract

The concept of transmedia storytelling was introduced by Henry Jenkins in an already seminal article published by Technology Review in January 2003. The chapter presents transmedia storytelling in the context of contemporary media research and describes the main academic discussions around it. Issues such as the participation of fans in the construction of transmedia narrative worlds or the media/narrative expansions are discussed in this chapter. Finally, the chapter also deals with two key concepts of the book: transmedia archaeology and transmedia pulp fiction.Keywordscollaborative culturemedia industrytransmedia archaeologytransmedia pulp fictiontransmedia storytelling
